Artist Owned

The BirdHive was created and owned by the main artist, Addy. A late diagnosed Autist who felt very disconnected from the world for years before the diagnosis. They use art as a bridge for the human connection they've longed for.

What Is DTG printing?

DTG, Direct to Garment, designs are printed using non-toxic vegan inks that ensure the garments are safe for adults and children. DTG-printed designs soak into the clothing fibers. This prevents cracking over time, and allows the design to be flexible, so it moves with you. The process uses machines that are energy-efficient, produce zero wastewater, and are sustainable

Our Autism-Friendly Mission

The DTG process prevents cracking over time, and gets softer after the first wash. We use Bella + Canvas 100% ring spun cotton shirts that are soft, don't shrink, and last for years without wear and tear. BirdHive Designs are made with venting in mind so the designs will breathe.

About The BirdHive

Our Story

Born out of a period of self-discovery, The BirdHive is a non-binary and autistic-owned company that seeks to uplift the authentic self, especially if that self is a little different.

After years of struggling in a neurotypical corporate world, there had to be a better way to live with true connection to others. Addy, while supported by friends and family, set out to use their own neurodivergent, LGBTQIA, and nerdy inspired art on comfortable, soft, sensory friendly shirts to find connection with like-minded and like-wired humans.

The Story of Birdhive Designs

2021

The Humble BEE-ginning

Quarantine had an effect on absolutely everyone around the world. I practically livied on zoom. When I received my first ASD diagnosis at 36 my journey turned into a roller coaster.

2021 has got to be one of the lowest points in my life. Due to social conflicts and overwhelming anxiety I had a complete nervous breakdown and had to leave work and move back in with my parents. I knew I needed to pick myself back up. But how?

2022

Rise From the Ashes

Thanks to the support of friends and family, I was able to rethink the entire way I lived. I came to the conclusion that Life should not be this way. I knew I wanted to make art, and I was late diagnosed with ASD because of how much I didn't know. I wanted to embrace Neurodiversity and Be open about my journey.

With a goal of 20 shirt designs before the end of the year. 2022 started with those 20 designs and The Birdhive launched in April

2023

Rising From the Ashes

I am no stranger to failure, and my past failures taught me what to avoid and that mistakes are inevitable.

The BirdHive, and my freelance illustration business both took off. I found myself absolutely swamped with work and made some rash decisions. I made the biggest mistakes in 2023, but mistakes don't mean instant failure. The BirdHive felt too important to abandon. This time I was going to succeed.

2024

The Patient Climb

The Goals for The Birdhive have become more solid in 2024. Community, Connectivity, and Pride in one's authentic self. No room at all for hate or toxic positivity.

Twin Cities PRIDE 2024 launched The BirdHive forwards into the year. The mistakes of 2023 may have hurt, but with time and more experience I kept her steady.

The image is from GameHole con, and the experience there was amazing.

Where We Are NOW

Life never slows down, or lets up does it? In Todays climate in America, human connectivity and authenticity matter more than ever before. America is for We the People, not the rich. We are the melting pot. The home of the American Dream. All of what makes America great is deeply threatened now.

Protect the vulnerable. Support local businesses. United we stand, Divided we fall.
