Your Expectations are NOT My Responsibility

Behind the Design

Created in January of 2022
This comes from a very strong memory of when I was 13. I always loved how I dressed at that age, baggy jeans, baggy shirts, and a plaid long sleeve shirt tied around my waist. I was comfortable and I felt the most like myself. I was still very impressionable then, and I was told my clothes were not appropriate for me. This is when I started my "girl uniform" with lace, elastic bands, tight fits, a sensory hell.

During Quarantine of 2020 I worked from home, and being away from the office meant I could put my "girl uniform" aside. I found I had time to think about who I was and what I wanted, so I researched more about being NonBinary and my world opened up! I didn't have a word for this when I was 13, and having a word would have definitely helped me be more sure of myself and my style. The saying "Your expectations are not my responsibility" is from an image I found online. The hand lettering and overall design is from my hand.
